The Consolor Carved Foam Seating System is manufactured using a purpose built routing machine. A stylus is traced over the inside surface of the casting bag or plaster cast of the client, while a cutting tool follows the same path as the stylus, the shape is copied into a block of foam. Different types and combinations of foam can be used, to suit the specific requirements of the client. A plastic shell is formed around the foam in order that it holds its shape. The seat has a padded upholstery cover, which is tailored specifically to the individual shape of the seat. The cover is easily removed for cleaning purposes.

Specific Features of Carved Foam Seating
Different types and combinations of foam can be used, to provide the required levels of pressure relief and support for the client. Tends to be more bulk to the finished seat than with other types of seating, however this is always reduced to a minimum. Minor adjustments can be made to the seat by cutting out or adding foam where necessary. The contours of the seat are not visible from the outside, so any postural asymmetry is hidden within the shell. Due to the materials and the shape of the seat it is quite insulating. It is a two piece system, so the backrest and base cushions are separate to each other, which allows adjustment to the backrest/base cushion angle. It also means it is a more modular system, so in the future if changes occur in the client’s back then only one cushion may need to be replaced. Low on maintenance requirements but interfaces may need to be checked regularly.
