Consolor Carved Foam Seating Systems - CFSS

The Consolor Carved Foam Seating System is manufactured using a purpose built routing machine. A stylus is traced over the inside surface of the casting bag or plaster cast of the client, while a cutting tool follows the same path as the stylus, the shape is copied into a block of foam. Different types and combinations of foam can be used, to suit the specific requirements of the client. A plastic shell is formed around the foam in order that it holds its shape. The seat has a padded upholstery cover, which is tailored specifically to the individual shape of the seat. The cover is easily removed for cleaning purposes.

Specific Features of Carved Foam Seating

  • Different types and combinations of foam can be used, to provide the required   levels of pressure relief and support for the client.
  • Tends to be more bulk to the finished seat than with other types of seating, however this is always reduced to a minimum.
  • Minor adjustments can be made to the seat by cutting out or adding foam where necessary.
  • The contours of the seat are not visible from the outside, so any postural asymmetry is hidden within the shell.
  • Due to the materials and the shape of the seat it is quite insulating.
  • It is a two piece system, so the backrest and base cushions are separate to each other, which allows adjustment to the backrest/base cushion angle. It also means it is a more modular system, so in the future if changes occur in the client’s back then only one cushion may need to be replaced.
  • Low on maintenance requirements but interfaces may need to be checked regularly.
